Staying in a Short-Term Rental Shipping Container Home: A Spacious Retreat!

An article from a happy customer

I have been enamored with Shipping Container homes for many years and for many reasons.

First, I love the look. The industrial style is right up my alley…and the corrugated metal sides are a canvas for murals or other unique materials like cladding, vintage wood, or fabrics.

The fact that they use a waste product (one-way containers) and that they are so much stronger and safer than stick build homes is very appealing to me. Climate change requires us to build stronger, fire & flood resistant homes. Plus, the smaller footprint aligns with my goal of minimal sustainable living so these homes really check all my boxes.

Although I’ve been in many, I had never actually stayed in one for an extended period of time. This past summer, I decided it was time to rent one for a few days.

I found a beautiful little boutique hotel in Round Top, Texas called Flophouze. They have several 40’ shipping container homes for rent that overlook a stunning Texas grassland – fully furnished with cows. They also have a 20’ shipping container pool which came in quite handy during the 105° heat of the summer.

The first thing I noticed, after the stunning interior design, was just how spacious it was! I thought I might be claustrophobic but I was not in the least. Each have a kitchen, full comfortable bathroom, and nice sized bedroom with a queen bed. This hotel proved to be such an inspiration. I spent a lot of time thinking about the unique repurposed materials I could use to decorate my homes.

The exterior decks and retro murals enhanced the ambiance. I was in heaven.

My stay was unique, combining sustainability with comfort – a perfect blend of adventure and relaxation. So much so that after my trip I bought a shipping container home from S.I. Container Builds and I could not be happier about it.
